In defense of the beautifully awful
A rubber monster, a borrowed camera, and the nerve to make something anyway. That is a culture worth protecting.

Cheap does not mean empty
A low budget is a condition of production, not a verdict on imagination. A miniature skyline can have more personality than a seamless digital city. An awkward effect can reveal a person solving a problem with their hands. The seams are part of the pleasure: they invite us to notice how the illusion was made.
Taste is not a permission slip
Exploitation cinema has always made extravagant promises. The title shouts. The cover dares you. The movie sometimes delivers something very different. Enjoying that exchange does not require pretending every joke works or every provocation is clever. Loving a culture leaves room to criticize it.
Keep the door open
The useful legacy of independent filmmaking is a practical one: somebody made a film without waiting for a studio invitation. The next filmmaker should be able to do the same. Watch widely, pay artists when you can, credit the crew, and lend a hand on a small production. Cinema grows when more people can participate.
